Joseph Bolger is a countertenor, singing teacher and musicologist based in Peterborough. In opera and concert he has worked for companies including Opera North, Welsh National Opera, Music Theatre Wales, New Chamber Opera, Armonico Consort, Ensemble Serse and Size Zero Opera.
Recent appearances include Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at St. John’s Smith Square with Armonico consort, Ormonte (Handel/L’Elpidia) with Opera Settecento at the London Handel Festival and Prince Edward (Arne/The Masque of Alfred) with Doha Baroque Ensemble in Qatar as well as the Rector’s Clerk in the world premiere concert and recording of John Joubert’s opera Jane Eyre with the English Symphony Orchestra. As one half of voice-lute ensemble Duo Seraphim Joseph has performed for Brighton Early Music Festival, City Music Society and the Lake District Summer Music Festival.
Having graduated with a first class degree in music from Pembroke College Oxford, Joseph went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He is a Senior Lecturer in Classical Voice at Leeds College of Music and is undertaking Ph.D research into the social contexts of early music singing at King’s College London.
