Director and conductor wanted for new devised piece


We are seeking a director and conductor for a new devised work, Musical Confusion.


The piece will bring together text from Shakespeare’s original plays with music from operas inspired by them. The piece will close the Leeds Opera Festival on 27 August at Leeds Town Hall.


The director and conductor will be required to work with Northern Opera Group’s Artistic Director to devise the piece and advise on casting. Rehearsals will commence in Leeds in mid-August.


Northern Opera Group is committed to collaborating with a diverse range of artists, and we are keen to engage with directors and conductors from underrepresented communities. We are particularly interested in hearing from BAME and/or disabled applicants, and also encourage applications from female conductors.


These are paid roles with travel/accommodation provided.


For directors we are looking for candidates with


- Significant experience directing theatre and/or opera

- A good knowledge of Shakespeare’s plays is preferable

- Experience creating or collaborating on devised works is preferable


For conductors we are looking for candidates with


- Excellent keyboard skills (the conductor will be required to accompany the performance)

- A good knowledge of Shakespeare operas is preferable

- Experience creating or collaborating on devised works is preferable
