Samuel studied at Royal Academy Opera and was awarded the Blythe-Buesst Prize for opera.
Operatic experience includes The King (Eight Songs for a Mad King- Russian premiere), Papageno for Pavilion Opera, Baron Zeta for Ryedale Festival Opera, Guglielmo for Pop-Up Opera, The Younger Gentleman in Exposition of a Picture for Buxton Festival Opera, Aeneas (RAO), Masino in La vera costanza (RAO), and L'horloge comtoise/Le chatinL'enfant et les sortileges at the Barbican with Stéphane Denève and the BBCSO. Most recently he sang the baritone roles in Alexander Goehr's music theatre Tryptichon tour in Russia for the Russian premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre, and Ligeti's Nouvelles Aventures and Aventures at Saint Petersburg Philharmonia.
Engagements for this summer include Morales/Dancairo for Pitch Perfect Opera, Aeneas for Helios Collective, and ensemble at Grange Park Opera.
Oratorio highlights include bass solos in Purcell's Ode to Saint Cecilia (Dunedin Consort), Bach's Cantata BWV74 and BWV106 (‘Actus Tragicus’) for the RAM/Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series, and Handel's Messiah at the Linder Auditorium in Johannesburg.
