'The Pirates' auditions and rehearsals

If you'd like to join our cast for our production of The Pirates then take a look at the information below!

Remember that there's no need to audition if you'd like to join our chorus, and we welcome people of all ages and abilities.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time the opera has been performed since the late 18th century, so you'll be taking part in a truly special and unique production (our Artistic Director has even had to take a trip to the archives of the British Library to find the script!)

When and where will rehearsals take place?

Chorus rehearsals will be Tuesday evenings beginning 16 January. They will run every week at the Yorkshire College of Music and Drama (opposite the University of Leeds on Woodhouse Lane).

Principal rehearsals will be Wednesday evenings from 7pm - 9pm beginning 17 January at the College.

How can I audition for a principal role?

Auditions will take place on Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 January between 7pm and 9pm both days at Yorkshire College of Music and Drama (LS2 9BN).

Please bring a song of your choice to sing - if you have music for piano accompaniment, please bring this along as we will provide a pianist.

If you're unable to attend either of the audition days, or to book your audition, please contact Louise Garner who will arrange an alternative time ( | 07703 660745)

What roles are available?

There are a number of roles available of varying shapes, sizes and voice types (there are even some non-singing roles!)

Altador - our hero

Blazio - his trusty, if often ineffectual, sidekick

Aurora - our heroine

Fabulina - her loyal and clever companion

Gaspero - our villain

Guillermo - Aurora's would-be suitor

Sotillo - Gaspero's hapless hired hand

Marietta - a terrible gossip

Fidelia - Aurora's former servant

Captain - arch-nemesis of Gaspero

Genariello - head of the vineyard (a very important job ...)

How much does it cost to take part?

It's free to take part! We only ask for commitment and enthusiasm!
