Shakespeare will take centre stage at our Festival this summer, which from 2019 onwards will be renamed the Leeds Opera Festival.

Running from 23 to 27 August 2019, the headline production of the Leeds Opera Festival will be

libretto by Julian Sturgis

This comic gem will be performed in the wonderful Morley Town Hall, and cast members include Charlotte Hoather, Catrin Woodruff and Phil Wilcox.

We staged scenes from the opera in 2016 and you can listen to highlights from the performance here.

We're celebrating one of Shakespeare's most iconcic characters with an evening of food, opera and film.

You'll enjoy a sumptuous feast accompanied by music from three Falstaff operas - by Verdi, Salieri and Balfe - followed by a screening of Orson Welles' masterpiece, 'Chimes at Midnight'.

Tuesday 27 August will see the premiere of a new opera-theatre piece at Leeds Town Hall, titled

This captivating performance will imaginatively weave together text and song to seamlessly bring together Shakespeare’s original plays with many of the operas inspired by his works.
